The consortium comprising of Cégep de Jonquière, Cégep de Trois-Rivières and Collège Boréal is working in partnership with the Lycée Technique et Professionnel de Fatick (LTPF) to expand equitable access to high-quality technical and vocational education and training (TVET) while advancing gender equality, environmental sustainability in alignment with Senegal’s labour market needs.
Located in a region with strong economic potential in agriculture, fisheries, livestock, renewable energy and entrepreneurship, LTPF has been designated as a pilot community college under regional education reforms. The project will support its transition to a modern, inclusive and labour market-responsive training model.
A central component is the revision and modernization of LTPF’s Higher Technical Diploma in Renewable Energy using a competency-based, gender-responsive approach that integrates environmental sustainability. The project also develops short, tailored training programs to address local employers’ skills needs and strengthen learners’ employability.
The partnership builds institutional capacity through professional development for faculty and staff in competency-based curriculum design, inclusive pedagogy, digital learning, applied research and recognition of prior learning. Delivered in Senegal and Canada, activities promote knowledge exchange through training, study visits and collaboration with Canadian educators and industry representatives.
The project also aims to strengthen leadership, governance and innovation at LTPF through strategic planning, quality assurance and leadership training, including opportunities to increase women’s participation in decision-making. Stronger private-sector partnerships, entrepreneurship training and employment-focused initiatives further support workforce integration and regional economic development.
By integrating gender equality and environmental sustainability throughout the project, the initiative contributes to a more inclusive, resilient and responsive TVET system while strengthening lasting institutional partnerships between Canada and Senegal.
