This project is helping build the next generation of clean energy leaders in Africa. Over five years, 24 PhD students and early-career researchers from Burkina Faso, Niger, Togo and Egypt — two-thirds of whom are women — will undertake research placements at Polytechnique Montréal to strengthen their expertise in sustainable energy technologies.
Participants work on innovative solutions that address the energy and environmental challenges facing their home countries, including renewable energy, energy storage, biomass and waste recovery. Research areas include solar energy, green hydrogen, advanced battery technologies and the conversion of organic and electronic waste into valuable energy resources.
By combining advanced research training with practical applications, the project will strengthen local capacity in clean energy innovation, support sustainable development and help equip future leaders with the skills needed to advance the energy transition in their countries and across the region.
