This innovative program draws on the Cégep de Saint-Laurent’s expertise in water technologies and will help develop Scholars’ skills and employability to meet Benin’s need for a skilled workforce in water management. More than half of the Scholars will be women.

Carried out in partnership with the Institut National de l’Eau (INE) de l’Université d’Abomey-Calavi in Benin, this project will be deployed in two streams:

  1. Study periods for a complete program in Water Technology
    Four students from Benin will receive scholarships to enroll in the complete three-year Diploma of Collegial Studies (DCS) in Water Technology program at Cégep Saint-Laurent.  They will complete their studies in Canada before returning to Benin to apply their expertise by teaching or working as practitioners in the field of water management.
  1. Customized study stays leading to college certification in Water Treatment for a cohort of 10 students.
    A cohort of 10 students will take part in a customized seven-week training program, leading to a recognized certification in water treatment.

Candidate Profile:

Selection criteria include the applicant's academic record, language proficiency, and the specific requirements of the water treatment program.

Factors such as motivation, commitment to returning to their home country after completing the program, and awareness of gender equality issues will also be evaluated.

Customized training: 7 weeks
Attestation of college studies: 3 years
