This project will offer training in natural resources management — particularly among women in smaller communities — in the areas of remote sensing/geomatics wood science/property mapping and ecological monitoring. The training program was designed to meet the needs identified by Ghanaian partners for skilled labour in Ghana and supports an ongoing collaboration. Three training modalities will be offered:

  1. A custom-made Certificate Program will be offered to three groups
  2. Full study program — Master’s Degree in Forestry (MScF) for three students; and
  3. Research stays will provide current Ghanaian instructors with opportunities for upskilling in new technology, including the technology we will be sharing with Ghana.

All participants will also be trained to assist with training in Ghana.

Candidate Profile:

Training certificate: for working professionals affiliated with partners; 50% of spaces reserved for women

Master’s degree: for students who have completed a bachelor’s degree and are nominated by a partner institution; must meet eligibility requirements for the Master’s degree at Lakehead University

Research stay: for instructors/professors at partner institutions

Number of scholarship positions:

35 (total)

-23 for custom training program (three cohorts)

-nine for research stays

Length of Stay in Canada:

Training certificate: one month

Master’s degree: two years

Research stay: one month
