Brain drain remains a major challenge in Benin’s healthcare sector. This project addresses the issue by offering comprehensive, customized training opportunities that align with the partner institutions’ priorities and individual specialties, thereby promoting the retention of young physicians and educators in the country.
This innovative initiative combines certification programs, clinical observation and technical training to equip participants with advanced skills in clinical specialties, scientific research and higher education in the healthcare field. Each year, five young doctors or educators will take part in short-term training in Canada, bringing the total number of professionals trained over the project’s lifetime to 25. The training includes clinical and technical elements, as well as research, health education and fostering initiative-taking.
In addition, the project offers six individuals master’s degrees in areas such as nutrition and food biosciences, health education and interdisciplinary health sciences, thus promoting long-term capacity building in Benin’s healthcare sector.
